International Junior Regatta on 4 and 5 May 2024 at the Olympic Regatta Centre Munich Oberschleißheim
Munich will once again be the hotspot for young international rowers on 4 and 5 May 2024: 154 clubs will send around 800 rowers aged 15 to 18 from fourteen nations to the start. The regatta, which was organised for the first time in 1995, is regarded as the most important international performance test before the U19 European Championships in Kruszwica, Poland.
In a total of 73 events and 221 heats, the 15- and 16-year-old rowers will compete on the 1,500 metre course, while the 17- and 18-year-olds will complete 2,000 metres. The number of entries is once again impressive: The fourteen nations – Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Tunisia — will occupy a total of almost 2,200 seats.
“Since 1995, the great rowing nations of Europe have been loyal to us and come to Munich in large numbers with their young talents, which makes us very proud,” says Oliver Bettzieche, President of Regatta München e.V. “For our 100 volunteers, this is an incentive to put on a successful and professionally organised regatta year after year.”
Spectators can watch the junior regatta on both Saturday and Sunday from 8 am. Entry is free on both days. Award ceremonies take place continuously. Unfortunately, the 250-metre-long grandstand has been permanently closed for events since 2021 for fire safety reasons, but the races can be followed in the area in front of the grandstand and from the opposite side. The highlights of the regatta, the eight finals of the A-junior women and the A-junior men, will be held on Sunday afternoon.
